Welcoming Chuseok with Delicious Food!

Chuseok is coming again, in the COVID era where families are still cautious to get together.
To comfort people's sad hearts, we have held a Chuseok Food Event in advance.
Here are the reviews from those who enjoyed the atmosphere of Chuseok by preparing fresh ingredients,
having simple frozen jeon (Korean pancake), and completing a pleasant meal with meal kits.

I am the cook of the family today

Manager Choi Seong-woo of the Safety & Environment Team
Chuseok, the cherished holiday for Koreans, is approaching. Many office workers will start losing sleep over it from at least two months before. In the meantime, I saw a notice for the cooking event and applied for it immediately, and found that I was chosen in a fierce competition of one out of three. After a few days, I was overwhelmed by the ingredients that arrived with an early morning courier delivery. I started to hate the person I was in the past, who thought, “Cooking is fun, so I will be okay as long as the ingredients are here.” It felt like it was beyond my limit.

Anyway, I said I would give it a try. First, by starting with arranging the ingredients, as well as my heart. My mother scolded me, saying I made a hassle. Anyway, I braced myself and started cooking by searching Baek Jong-won's YouTube videos looking at the ingredients; it looked like I would be able to make yukjeon beef pancakes, fish-fillet, and Korean style meatballs. And the time was 10 in the morning, the best time for making pan fries. Everything seemed perfect! All I had to do with yukjeon and fish fillets was seasoning. The problem was the meatballs, where I had to chop up all the ingredients, and that was hard work. Half of the ingredients flew off the cutting board. I tried to think of it as a tactile game and finally shaped them, all I had to do now was to coat it with flour and egg and fry them. Eggs were everywhere in the kitchen, but future me will take care of it.

Now it was time to fry them in sizzling oil. Along with the savory aromas, the visual that could pass as jeon was gradually being completed. The smell was very tempting, and now I just needed to taste it. What happened? I sprinkled it with a lot of pepper because I liked it, but the jeon only tasted like pepper. My family tried to console me with “You did a good job, considering it’s your first time...” I had always bought food outside and never cooked before. Now I realize cooking isn’t easy. Anyhow, it was a fun experience. I will have a grateful heart every time I eat jeon from now on. Ladies at the restaurants, I will never refill jeon anymore.

Feeling Chuseok with jeon and makgeolli

Manager Kim Hyeon-yeong of Incheon Business Office
The one I requested was frozen jeon where all I needed to do was fry it. But it was right after I had lunch on Saturday when I received the delivery, so I put it in the freezer for a while. Then I somehow forgot about it, and it was just kept frozen for the whole weekend. The leisurely weekend ended, and I ended up taking out the jeon on a weeknight after work.

The package contained various types of jeon: Meatball, pollack pancakes, five-flavored sanjeok, hot chili chive pancakes, and kimchi pancakes. I prepared a frying pan and oil, and started cooking like I was a chef. When I thought they were ready, I plated them one by one neatly, and asked my wife to taste them. But oh, dear! They were still raw inside! So, I had to spend more time cooking them thoroughly.

It took time to complete the food, but I got to enjoy it with makgeolli. I especially liked the meatballs and kimchi pancakes. It’s Chuseok soon. If you're not confident in cooking, I think frozen jeon would be a good idea. But make sure you cook them thoroughly!

Jeon dish that satisfied the whole family

Senior Manager Jang Won-il of Shipping Business Strategy Team
With COVID-19 continuing for more than a year, it's been a long time since the whole family gathered together. It's hard to find holiday dishes if I don’t go to my mother’s, but if I could make Chuseok jeon at home, it’s an opportunity to feel the holiday. Besides, as the ingredients arrived on a Saturday and Ipchu (initial day of autumn), it really felt like Chuseok.

So I oiled the pan, fried the jeon, and tasted them. My oldest son liked everything from the meatballs, to the pollack pancake, and japchae. The youngest, who usually only eats meat, took a bite of meat jeon and really liked it, as expected. He even had a lot of japchae, although he doesn’t usually like it. And my wife and I liked the hot chili chive jeon the best. Thanks to the small but enjoyable event, our family had great fun with life together at home.

Spicy, Fresh, and Simple

Manager Lee Se-rim of Domestic Auto-Biz (Pre-Owned Car) Team
There is no rule that you have to cook only certain dishes for Chuseok. The meal kit that I chose was the octopus and tripe hot pot with fresh seafood and beef tripe. All the ingredients have been cleaned and prepared already, and the recipe was included. So I thawed the octopus first, boiled the other ingredients and sauce, and lastly put in the thawed octopus. It was that simple. Since I like seafood, I added shrimp, squid, and clams that I had in my freezer at home.

Within 20 minutes, the spicy and refreshing octopus and tripe hot pot was done! The taste was as delightful as I expected. I especially liked it that the octopus was very fresh. I actually can’t eat spicy food very well, so I only had a little bit of soup, but it was very satisfying!

Delicious food of my taste

Manager Park Yu-hee of Global Forwarding Operation Team 1
In today's situation where it is not easy for the whole family to gather to spend the holidays together due to COVID-19, the meal kit event was very helpful. Thanks to the event, I enjoyed the meal. However, they weren't holiday dishes but included soy sauce bibim noodles and ripe kimchi bibim noodle, which are my favorite.

This meal kit included a secret recipe of the Korean Grandma Park Makrye who boasts 1.3 million subscribers on YouTube. Because of the summer heat, I have little appetite these days, but the spicy and sweet bibim noodles restored my appetite. It was not easy to cook when I lived alone, but the vegetables, noodles, and sauce were conveniently divided, which made it easy to set the table. Thank you for giving me a chance to taste the secret recipe!
