Becoming a better person with intelligence, virtue, and physical health

Manager Kim Min-soo of the Auto Parts (KD) Supply Management Team

My resolution for the upcoming year is to achieve intelligence, virtue, and physical health. To begin with 'intelligence,' I’m going to study hard to pass the Certified Public Labor Attorney Examination, which was something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. When I took the exam a couple of times when I was an undergraduate, I passed the first round twice, but always ended up failing in the second round. The answers I put down were not complete as I didn’t have enough hands-on experience. Now I want to use all the theories I’ve learned and the hands-on experience accumulated so far to succeed in becoming a Certified Public Labor Attorney. Next is 'virtue.' I will make 2022 a productive year filled with positive vibes and shake off all the negative mindset. My last goal is to become 'physically healthy.' As a matter of fact, I was diagnosed with gout this year. It was completely out of the blue as I’m not a person who either drinks or enjoys delivery food often. In 2022, I’ll do my best to stop taking unnecessary medication, maintain a healthy balanced diet to become healthy, and work out to gain more strength. By doing so, I hope I can become a completely different person in 2022!

Focus on just one task and get it done

Manager Heo-gak of Auto Parts (KD) Supply Management Team

The year 2022 will be my third year at Hyundai Glovis as well as the year I turn 30. I will stick to just one goal for the entire year, which is to succeed in losing weight. In 2018, I had a chance to go to Germany to work as an intern and I spent the entire six months drinking beer, happy with my life. I then came back to Korea a year later, but ended up gaining even more weight as I started to hang out with my friends often while looking for a job. And then in January 2020, I successfully joined Hyundai Glovis, but weighed 80kg. Of course, I promised myself I would start losing weight, but camping became my hobby after the pandemic began and I couldn’t go to the gym. Before I knew it, I put on more weight than ever before and became an 86kg man as of November 2021. I became one of the many people who put on weight during the pandemic. Shocked to see that I was the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life, I began going to the gym to work out. My goal is to drop my weight down to below 70kg. I’m going to open a new chapter in my life, going back to the person I used to be, the person who was interested in fashion.

Becoming a father who understands his children’s feelings

Senior Manager Kang Yong-gu of Europe Auto Parts (KD) Biz Team

My resolution for the New Year is to respect my children’s priorities. Actually, I’ve always been impatient all my life. I become somewhat nervous and quick-tempered if there’s a deadline I have to keep or if I have a lot to do. The same goes for when I’m with my two daughters who are 4 years old and 2 years old, respectively. “Put down your book and go get changed because we have to leave at 10:00.” “Make sure to drink lots of powdered milk now so that you don’t get hungry in the car.” This was what I often said to my girls. I now realize that what my children want is not just getting changed to go out, but to see a tiger in a book and talk with their father about the tigers that they saw at the zoo. What I also didn’t know was that to them, playing with socks with their father while putting them on was more important than knowing when to drink milk. I kept pushing them hard to keep my priorities straight, not theirs. However, it’s never too late! Now that I know, I want to communicate with my girls in the right way. I know changes are not always easy, but I promise myself that I will do everything I can to become a better father!

Basic target? Extreme target!

Manager Song Moon-beom of Hydrogen energy business Team

My goal for this year is very specific. To start with, I want to become stronger and lift 600kg in total including squat, bench, and deadlift. It is said that that at some point in your 30s, your muscles stop growing on their own, which means that you have to exercise your muscles even harder. I set this target for myself to make my body that will be growing old and weak over time stronger and fit. You’ve got to be healthy and strong for the healthy development of your work and life. I’m going to set monthly goals and increase the weight I’m lifting each month. I’m also thinking about participating in a powerlifting contest in December. There’s a saying that goes “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” Promising myself that I’ll make it work no matter what, I will first start with improving my basic physical fitness.

I can do it! Reading 150 books

Manager Kang Jun-beom of Europe Forwarding Operation Team

I haven’t really read many books so far. I always set a goal every year to start reading books, but somehow I’ve always had excuses not to do it. After years of hard thinking, one idea that came to me was that sometimes setting the bar high instead of achievable targets leads to better results. As a result, I set an ambitious goal of reading 150 books a year. That way, even if I don’t end up reading all 150 books, at least I’ll be close to it. To be more specific, I’ll use the spare time I have during the day as well as the time before going to bed to read books. Of course, YouTube or Netflix will be very tempting, but I really want to achieve the goal I’ve set for myself. I’m going to start by creating a list of 30 books per genre. Also, I’m going to try borrowing books from the library and joining book clubs. Just like even the longest marathons begin with a small step, I hope all my hard effort can bring me to the finishing goal. With that in mind, I’m going to go ahead and take my first step of the long marathon of reading 150 books!

Achieving all five goals at all cost

Manager Kim Gyeong-han of Pohang Business Office

I’ve set five goals for myself this year. First of all, I will lose 5kg. I currently weigh 73kg, but I’ll reduce it down to 68kg by working out at home during the morning and going to the gym in the evening. Second, I’m going to get my own place. What I really want is to buy my own house in which I can drive nails into the wall without having to discuss with the landlord. I really wish I can win the housing subscription program. Third, this year, I am going to spend at least 30 minutes every day to study to become a Certified Professional Logistician. Pursuing professional certifications is a must if you’re working for a top global logistics company. Number four, I will take the SPA (Speaking Proficiency Assessment) exam. As part of my self-development goals, I will take English-by-phone classes to become a global talent with fluent English skills. Last but not least, I will quit smoking, which is something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. Since my wife and I are going to start trying to have a baby, I’m going to quit smoking for my family’s health. I know five goals may be a lot, but I’ll do my best to make 2022 a year in which all of them are accomplished.

Till the day I become an expert in data analysis

Senior Manager Woo Tae-gyu of the Bulk New Business Team

My goal for this year is to get both the Advanced Data Analytics Semi-Professional certificate and the Advanced Data Analytical Professional certificate. In an era where the importance of Big Data continues to grow, improving data literacy to keep up with the changes is important. I’m sure that accomplishing this goal will help me with my daily tasks. Getting the certificate qualifications will surely help me become more skilled in using data and also make me feel fulfilled. To make this happen, I will spend at least 30 minutes studying for the exam every day starting January 1st. My first target is to pass the Advanced Data Analytics Semi-Professional exam early this year, and focus on the Advanced Data Analytical Professional exam for the remainder of the year! I’ll work hard to make 2022 a year full of accomplishments!
