Launch of Eco-friendly Brand ECOH,
Hydrogen·EV Business

Global SCM company Hyundai Glovis has launched “ECOH,” an eco-friendly energy solution brand. ECOH is a composite word of 'ECO' and 'HUMAN.' Hyundai Glovis plans to fully utilize ECOH in its eco-friendly business such as hydrogen transportation and EV battery recycling.

The company will provide optimal services for building a hydrogen value chain by playing major roles in producing, storing, distributing, and supplying hydrogen. Hyundai Glovis will expand the hydrogen transport and infrastructure operation business and increase the number of hydrogen shipping centers to nine by 2030, and supply the gas to over 360 charging stations nationwide. It also plans to promote overseas green hydrogen distribution and related infrastructure operation projects in Oceania and the Middle East, and independent development projects for the domestic green hydrogen market.

Since the battery is another important part of eco-friendly business as a key component of electric vehicles (EVs), Hyundai Glovis plans to establish future strategies based on empirical evidences of Vehicle to Grid (V2G) − a two-way charging technology where electric vehicles communicate with a power grid to use idle power, following the current EV lease demonstration project. In addition, it is preparing a battery recovery and recycling business. Waste batteries from EVs can be reused for other purposes or the raw materials extracted from them can be recycled. Based on the fact that storage capacity can still be used even if the battery has reached the end of its lifespan, it is designing a Used Battery Energy Storage System (UBESS) project that recycles batteries as an energy storage system (ESS).

Cooperating with the world’s largest hydrogen producer
to establish a global hydrogen supply chain

Hyundai Glovis recently held an MOU signing ceremony for establishing a supply chain for liquefied and clean hydrogen with Air Products, the world’s largest hydrogen producer. According to the agreement, the two companies plan to seek cooperation in various projects.

First of all, regarding the establishment of a liquefied hydrogen supply chain in Korea, Hyundai Glovis plans to increase domestic distribution competitiveness by securing stable suppliers, etc., and Air Products will review the investment and operation of a liquefied hydrogen plant. In addition, Hyundai Glovis plans to introduce clean hydrogen and green ammonia rooted in its shipping capacity, while cooperating with Air Products to build a green-ammonia based hydrogen supply chain using their original technologies such as ammonia decomposition technology.

With this initiative, Hyundai Glovis plans to build a strong hydrogen logistics infrastructure to create a hydrogen ecosystem where anyone can easily use hydrogen.
