‘G-PARENT’S DAY’ event for employees’ parents
“Parents, Hyundai Glovis will be filial to you!”

In honor of Family Month in May, Hyundai Glovis organized a “G-PARENT’S DAY” event to invite parents of employees to its headquarters. Parents were invited to visit their children’s workplaces and enjoy various programs together. It was a special time to share warm love between parents and children and to reaffirm the importance of each other. G-PARENT’S DAY will be held twice, on the 18th and 25th of May, and we have caught up with the first of these events.

On Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m., Hyundai Glovis headquarters welcomed a special guest. It was the day of the “G-PARENT’S DAY” event to which the parents of Hyundai Glovis employees were invited! The parents’ faces were filled with smiles of excitement and anticipation.

After a tour of the office building, a company introduction video was shown, followed by a special lecture by journalist, broadcaster and author Yoo In-kyung. Entitled “Family Relationships, the Key to Happiness,” the hour-long lecture emphasized the value of rich relationships and provided various tips for family communication.

Accept Accept and appreciate each other’s differences.
Be Myself Instead of being the best version of yourself, be the tweaked version of yourself.
Choice Words over contemplation and impressions! Relationships are defined by words and attitudes.
Diamond Move away from indifference and obsession and practice consistent communication.
Empathy Empathy and responsiveness are important, and you need to be happy to do well.

Families arrived one by one at the company cafeteria, which was filled with delicious smells. Parents took care of their children, children took care of their parents, and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of neatly prepared Korean food.

Steamed beef ribs, steamed abalone… lots of tasty dishes!

“Mom, eat a lot!”, “Son, enjoy your meal!”

Glovis has prepared a video of singer Lim Young-woong, a hero of parents!

After lunch, the Hyundai Glovis family headed to Seoul Forest, where the greenery grew even darker and the sun shone brightly as they celebrated G-PARENT’S DAY. At the photo zones set up at each scenic spot, photographers took pictures that will become family memories.

Let’s take a walk together!

The last part of the G-PARENT’S DAY event was the recreational event. Trivia, rock-paper-scissors, bingo and other games made everyone feel like a kid again. Gifts such as foot massagers, high quality cutting boards and coffee vouchers were also distributed.

The final step was a surprise video. The video, which began with the phrase “Parental love makes us who we are today,” showed a day in the life of the children and their support for each other. Letters written by the children to their parents were also shared. It was a heartwarming and tearful moment for everyone. At the end of the day, each family received a bottle of wine as a souvenir.

“I love the company view. Let’s fly, my daughter!”

How did it feel to share the event with your parents?

Last year, I got a lot of flack for not inviting my parents to the event. (Laughs) I’m glad I did because I saw how excited they were today. It was different and fun to see my mom sitting where I work.

What do you admire about your parents in general?

I admire my parents for always finding things they love to do. Recently, my mom has been learning computers, and my dad likes to try different things. I want to be a person who is passionate about finding something that I am consistently good at.

show off your daughter.

I’m grateful that I grew up with the same personality since I was a kid, taking responsibility for my work and doing it well, and I’m proud that I was able to get a good job without too much worry.

What do you hope for your daughter?

As they say, even a genius can’t beat the one who’s having fun, so I hope you always enjoy your work, and even if you’re busy, you should still work hard on your self-improvement and exercise. Keep up the good work!

How did you feel about inviting your parents to work with you today?

I’ve been with the company for about nine years now, and I haven’t invited my parents since I was a new employee, but I had a great opportunity to do it again.

Is there something you always wanted to tell your parents?

I have two boys in my family, and I recently had a daughter, and I’ve been thinking about how hard it was for my parents to raise her. I know they had a hard time raising their boys and I hope they have a good life and enjoy it.

How did it feel to tour your son’s workplace?

After the meal, we went to the cafe area with greenery, and I looked around the employees’ rest areas, offices, etc., and it made me feel good about my son, because he seems to be working in a good environment, and I hope that he will be able to work with the employees and work hard.

As a career counselor, what would you tell your son?

The organizational culture of the workplace is becoming more and more individualistic. Today, I came to a large company called Hyundai Glovis, and I hope that it will become a more developed company through harmony and humanization among employees, and I hope that my son will grow even more.

Do you have any wishes for your mother?

I attended the G-PARENT’S DAY event today, and the memories we make together are very important to me in my life. The only thing I wish for my mom is that she will always be healthy so that I can make many happy and precious memories with her in the future. As for my efforts? I always tell her to exercise, eat well, and buy her medicine. (laughs) I try my best.

What would you like to do with your parents in the future?

I love traveling abroad, but I think I’ve only been to Korea and Japan with my mom, and I’d like to travel abroad with her in the future to build precious memories.

What was it like to attend the Parent Invite event with your daughter?

I live in Busan, so I go to Seoul every two or three years. I usually hear about the company through my daughter, but after I came and saw it for myself, the company is really cool, and the environment and views are impressive. I am very proud that my Minji studied hard and joined a good company. Thank you for organizing such a good event.

What was the most impressive program you saw today?

I was impressed that Yoo In-kyung, a reporter I have liked since I was young, came as a lecturer, and I really liked the content of the lecture. The older I get, the more I appreciate my family and children. I remember the words that family relationships must be polished like a diamond to shine, and that it is a verbal image rather than a contemplative or mental image. Even if I say the same thing, I will try to make the other person feel good.

What was the happiest moment you had with your parents today?

I was happiest when we took a snapshot in the forest in Seoul. My family lives far away from Jeju Island, Seoul and Daejeon, so it’s not easy for us to get together, but of course we walked through the forest together and took pictures.

Are you filial or do you plan to be filial in the future?

I can’t give my parents a lot of pocket money because I just joined the company and there are many places to spend it. (laughs) But I’m confident that I’m a very loving daughter and can playfully talk to my mom on the phone after work. In the future, I’d like to save money and do a lot of financial filial piety.

What would you like to hear from your daughter?

I have a letter that my daughter gave me when she joined Hyundai Glovis, and she told me what I wanted to hear: ‘Mom, thank you, thank you for always being a friend, like a sister, like a senior in life, like a mother.’ I didn’t know if she wanted to hear that, but when I saw her letter, I cried. I want to continue to be such a happy mother and daughter.

What are your words of encouragement to your daughter?

Ji-won, I’ve often been heartbroken that I had to send you away at such a young age, but you worked hard on your own to get here, and I’m so grateful and happy that you’re in such a good place. I’m so happy. I hope you’ll learn hard under good seniors in a good company and become an indispensable person in the organization. Thank you and I love you always!
