Hyundai Glovis Team Leader Kim Tae-heon recommends
‘My own playground near work’

Seongsu-dong, where Hyundai Glovis is headquartered, is full of hot spots and places to visit. But when you don’t know where to go, let’s take a look at the team leader’s recommendations for places around the company. What are Team Leader Kim Tae-heon’s favorite places around the company? From restaurants to walking course, you’ll get a glimpse into team leader’s tastes. Find out which team leader will be the next to recommend a place.

We asked Team Leader Kim Tae-heon, PCTC Marketing Team, a veteran who joined Hyundai Glovis in June 2013 and has been with the company for 11 years, about his lunch break. We asked him what he recommends for a tasty snack, and where are the hidden walking course that not many Hyundai Glovis employees know about.

Recommended dish

Recently, the menu has expanded to include Mara Tantan noodles, Chengyang Tantan noodles, and Sichuan Tantan noodles, but I’m not a fan of spicy food, so I always order the standard Tantan noodles. If you’re a fan of spicy food, try the Chengyang tantan noodle. If you’re trying Tantan noodles for the first time, try the Tantan noodles with soy sauce egg rice.

Tips for eating well

When the food is served, I start with a spoonful of the thick broth, savoring the peanut butter and the deep flavor of the secret broth. Then I take a bite of the soft-boiled egg. Tantan noodles are best eaten with plenty of garlic sauce in the broth, and the last thing you need is a soft-boiled egg. There’s a recipe on the wall of the restaurant that says how to eat it, and it’s similar to that. The way they recommend is probably the best way to enjoy the dish.

What made you like ‘Tantan Noodles Kitchen Seoul Forest Branch’?

Tantan noodles have been one of my favorite dishes ever since I first tried them in the basement of a department store near my house. My guilty pleasure is ramen, and I remember that after I moved to Seoul Forest, I complained that there was no good ramen place nearby, so when I found out that there was this place near my workplace, I was so excited. It’s not very spacious inside, so it’s hard to come in a group, but I love going with a co-worker who needs a fix after drinking too much, and the deep, smooth broth makes me sweat.

Do you have any special stories about your time here?

The bowls are very unusual: the mouth of the bowl is angled toward the eater. I once had a family laugh when my second daughter saw the shape of the moon, which is halfway between a full moon and a half moon, and said, “That looks like my dad’s Tantan noodle bowl. It’s actually modeled after a moon jar.

Is there a favorite cafe to stop at after a meal?

There is a Starbucks on the first floor of the building that houses the Tantan Noodle Shop. It’s a great place to grab a spicy tantan noodle and an iced Americano. It’s not a small place, but it’s always crowded, so it’s hard to sit down and enjoy dessert. If I’m in the mood for something sweet like cake, I order a java chip Frappuccino and drink it while walking around.

Recommended course for walk

I usually sleep during my lunch break, but I’d like to share a great walk I went on with manager Choi Jae-yong, who loves to hike and lives in Seongsu-dong. If you go to another entrance to Seoul Forest, across from Seongsu Middle School, you’ll find a bridge over a small lake and a pillar garden. This is a trail that is not often used by company employees, and I think it’s a great place to walk when you have a lot to think about. If you walk slowly and steadily, it connects to the main trail of Seoul Forest.

Walk items

Recently, I’ve been recommending a lot of songs by the singer Rose on YouTube, and I thought I’d share some of my favorite songs to listen to while walking. Rose ⅹ Gentleness’s ” Time Walking On Memory” or “When you want to hear all the songs in the world in Rose’s voice” make me feel like I’m clearing my head.

Is there a special story behind walking?

Shortly after I started in the cabin, I went for a walk with my teammates. That’s when we talked about things we hadn’t talked about because we were all busy with our jobs, what our favorite practices were, etc. It was a great way to get to know each other and I remember it well.

Are there any other places you recommend?

I also recommend the cafe street behind the headquarters. We recommend ‘Parco’ for pizza, ‘Cream Label’ for cakes, and ‘Osteria Faro’ for pasta. No ads, haha.

What kind of memories do you keep from your favorite places?

I bookmark my favorites places on Naver Maps. When I visit the area later, my favorite places are marked with a green star, which is convenient and brings back memories.

Are there other places in the company you’d like to visit in the future?

Every fall, there’s a jazz festival in Seoul Forest, but I’ve never been there. This fall, I really want to go with my wife to show her that there is such a wonderful park near my workplace and to introduce her to various restaurants and cafes.

Who would you recommend as the next guest for the column?

I would like to nominate Kim Ji-hyung, Team Leader of PCTC Middle East/Africa Team. He is one of the best ‘insiders’ in Hyundai Glovis and a role model team leader for me in terms of looks and skills.
