The Hyundai Glovis Rugby Team once again showed its potential. At the ‘104th Korea National Sports Festival (hereinafter referred to as the National Sports Festival)’, they achieved a thrilling comeback victory over POSCO E&C. It’s the first National Sports Festival after 8 years of existence. Created by the sweat and effort of Hyundai Glovis players, the winning scene was vividly captured.
On the way to victory
On Thursday, October 19, the final match of the Korean National Sports Festival was held in Jindo, Jeollanam-do. Hyundai Glovis and POSCO E&C competed in the big match to determine the best team. The players of the Hyundai Glovis Rugby Team warmed up energetically before the final match and made every effort to prepare.
A passionate cheering for winning
The Jindo Public Stadium, where the game was played that day, was filled with the cheers and enthusiasm of fans who were rooting for the Hyundai Glovis rugby team to win the championship. Many fans came from Incheon, the hometown of the rugby team, to watch the game, and Hyundai Glovis executives, including CEO Lee Gyu-bok, also attended the event to add significance.
On this day, there was a lot of cheering at the Hyundai Glovis headquarters. Although I couldn’t go there in person because I was busy with work, the people of Hyundai Glovis cheered for the rugby team. They gathered on the 32nd floor. They watched the live-streamed final together. I prayed for the Hyundai Glovis rugby team to win.
Come-from-behind victory after a battle to win, Hyundai Glovis VS POSCO E&C
From the beginning of the game, it was a fierce battle. POSCO E&C opened the game by scoring three points through a penalty kick. Then both teams scored a drop goal. A penalty kick was exchanged to tie the score at 6-6.
POSCO E&C scored the first try early in the game and also converted the conversion kick, so when the first half ended at 6:13, the Hyundai Glovis stands erupted in disappointment.
Maybe the team knows fans’ feeling and hearts. At the start of the second half, Hyundai Glovis launched a fierce attack. They scored a penalty kick, a try and a conversion kick to turn the game around at 16:13. Not to be outdone, POSCO E&C counterattacked hard and quickly scored 6 more points.
As the exciting match continued, Hyundai Glovis player Lee Jin-gyu scored a try with a quick individual breakthrough, and the momentum began to swing towards Hyundai Glovis. Jeong bu-hyun made the conversion kick to win the Korea National Sports Festival with a 23-20 victory.
The players hugged each other as the buzzer sounded to end the game and seal the championship. Among the players were CEO Lee Gyu-bok and Executive Director Lee Bong-jae, who came to the stadium to celebrate the victory. And they shared the joy of the precious victory with the team’s coach Kim Yong-hoe, who had worked hard together. Hyundai Glovis will now participate in the Korea Super Rugby League in 2023. After the victory in the second competition, the team added a gold medal at the Korea National Sports Festival to its record.
